The latest ASD Cyber Threat Report reveals key insights into the threats facing Australia’s digital environment. It also provides advice on actions we can take to protect ourselves and the businesses online.
ASD Cyber security centre responded to over 1100 cyber security incidents during the 2022-2023 financial year.
Businesses and individuals alike were targeted, nearly 94,000 reports were made through ReportCyber. That’s around one incident every 6 minutes. The average cost of cyber crime against a small business has also increased upto around $49,000 AUD.
Millions of individuals, businesses and organizations were also affected by data breaches. Nation-state actors continue to target Australia’s economy and security, focusing on information gathering campaigns. Due to the Austrlia’s increasing reliance on technology , which has the potential to affect the security of the systems such as power, water, telecommunication, hospitals and logistics.
Top Cyber threats highlighted,
- Compromised accounts & credentials
- Compromised assets, networks or Infrastructure & denial of service attacks.
- Email compromise, business email compromise and online banking fraud.
